CULTURE NEWS

  • Jean Enersen (retired KING-TV anchor with 48 years of service) will serve as Grand Marshal for the Apple Blossom Festival Parade on Saturday, May 2 and deliver the keynote address at the All Service Club and Community Luncheon on Thursday, April 30 at the Wenatchee Convention Center.  KPQ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Washington state reached 8,001,020 residents as of July 1, 2025 due to a mix of natural change & migration, marking a 73,000-person increase from the previous year. This milestone reflects steady growth that highlights shifting economic opportunities across the state.  KPQ
  • County, state, and federal agencies are evaluating repair options for Stehekin’s damaged dike (15 to 20 homes at risk) as spring runoff nears. A multi-agency meeting will be held on Feb. 10 to address repair responsibilities and timelines.  KPQ
  • Federal funds of $10M advanced the Wenatchi Landing project in East Wenatchee after Rep. Newhouse secured the money on Jan. 22. The development (317-acre site on both sides of US 2 near the Columbia River) will move forward with appropriations from several federal bills.  KPQ
  • Grant PUD approved electric rate increases during a Jan. 27 meeting to cover inflation, rising infrastructure, and power generation costs; the new rates—averaging about 3.5% for residential customers and up to 9.5% for large industrial users—will take effect on April 1.  KPQ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local pet experts advise that if a dog is shivering or slowing down, especially small breeds, puppies, and seniors, a winter coat (as recommended by Small Door Veterinary) may help keep them warm, and booties can protect paws from harsh chemicals.  KPQ

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • NNN Development said plans for the Dollar General store in Cashmere are scrapped after the retailer deemed the area too far from town with little traffic. The Chelan-Douglas Regional Port Authority will now consider other retail options on the 1.87+ acre tract.  KPQ
