BUSINESS NEWS

  • T-Mobile will lay off 393 employees in April, affecting offices in Bellevue, Bellingham, Bothell, Spokane Valley, E. Wenatchee, Woodinville, and Snoqualmie while Zillow cut around 200 jobs last month in Seattle (as part of performance reviews).  KPQ
  • Cashmere Mailing House started a new chapter on Jan. 1 when Krista Davis took over ownership in the Mission District, continuing longtime manager Jayne Stephenson’s legacy — she retired after creating a trusted resource for bulk and First-Class mail marketing. CULTURE NEWS

  • A poll by Matalan shows Washington adults value more than romance on February 14, with 2,000 respondents listing partners, children, dogs, and friends as their top loves. Fifty-seven percent plan to spend the day with a partner while others will celebrate with family or personal interests.  KPQ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Two local students, Parker Johnson (Wenatchee Rotary Club) and Ruth Sperry (Wenatchee Sunrise Rotary Club) were chosen for the Rotary Youth Exchange Program for next school year and will attend school abroad after training in language development and cultural awareness.  KPQ
  • The Washington State University Master Gardener Program resumes its free weekly plant clinic on Monday, Feb. 23 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Wenatchee Public Library — Sagebrush Meeting Room, where residents can get help with garden pests and plant issues.  KPQ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Officials with the Forest Service advise visitors to the national forest this winter to be cautious due to high-elevation snowfall potentially increasing avalanche risk. They also warn recreationists not to drive on groomed snowmobile routes and to use proper equipment on icy trails.  KPQ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Washington officials report a voluntary recall of about 40,000 cases of Ore-Ida Tater Tots and Sysco Imperial Potato Tater Barrels after clear hard plastic fragments were detected, risking choking. Residents should check freezers and return impacted products (or dispose) according to the notice.  KPQ
