  • Eastern Washington lakes from Grant to Whitman counties will open on March 1 for anglers after WDFW stocks rainbow trout and other species (thin ice remains on some eastside lakes due to a mild winter).  KPQ

  • County PUD commissioners allocated $600K from the Public Power Benefits program today to restore Walter Graham’s “Horsepower” mural — a cherished local artwork — and install it at the Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center.  The Wenatchee World

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Washington drivers face rising gas prices this February. AAA reported regular gas now costs $4.23 (an increase of 40 cents from last month) due in part to high fuel taxes and regional supply limits.  KPQ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Washington families are encouraged to explore math and coding majors after a Federal Reserve Bank report reveals high early-career earnings in tech and aerospace. The report shows that top salaries promise local jobs in the Wenatchee Valley — a boon for future graduates.  KPQ
  • Wenatchee Valley College Foundation is accepting nominations for the 2026 Distinguished Alumni Award, open to any alumnus who attended for at least a year. The award honors graduates who excel professionally and contribute to the community.  KPQ

  • The City of Cashmere, Chelan County and the Chelan-Douglas Port Authority are joining forces to remove flood-deposited rock from the Riverside boat ramp on the Wenatchee River to restore safe boat access.  The Wenatchee World

  • A new Apple Heart and Movement Study finds Washington residents rank 7th in daily exercise and show strong cardiovascular health. Local families in Wenatchee enjoy exploring trails, orchards, and slopes to keep their hearts healthy & active.  KPQ
  • Former healthcare leaders note Wenatchee doctors have lost confidence in system leadership over a $60 million cancer clinic project that lacked proper vetting and physician input—warning that poor collaboration could impact recruitment, morale and patient care. They urge the Confluence Health Board to renew its review of the proposal.  KPQ
  • A federal agency has recalled over 3.3 million pounds of frozen chicken fried rice sold in our area because it may contain glass. Shoppers are advised to stop eating any recalled items and return them to stores for a refund.  KPQ
