Good morning, Wenatchee. Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 8th of March.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Wenatchee Reclamation District is planning major upgrades on its century-old irrigation canals — including cleaning, shotcrete lining and sensor installations — to ensure steady water delivery for orchards and growing residential needs as material costs rise and water demand shifts.  Wenatchee Business Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A 12-acre block on the west side that once held pear trees now hosts streets and homes (showing growing land value near jobs). Growers are shifting to high-density plantings or vineyards, or selling farmland for faster returns as the valley’s agricultural economy changes.  Wenatchee Business Journal
  • At Hard Row to Hoe, vineyard crews are cutting dormant vines on a gray winter morning; owner Don Phelps said only six to eight tons of the 60-ton crop of prunings becomes usable compost, making costs and labor decisions key for long-term soil health in the valley.  Wenatchee Business Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • NCW Tech Alliance launched the AI Youth Corps to help local students learn AI skills and assist small businesses in testing new ideas. The program will expand this spring with 20 students from three school districts + Microsoft support to boost regional innovation.  Wenatchee Business Journal
