COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Women’s Service League will host My Girlfriend’s Closet from March 13-15 at North Avenue Plaza, a fundraiser that supports local nonprofits for women and children. A pre-sale on March 12 (5:00 pm to 8:00 pm) gives early shopping access, while a free prom dress giveaway is set for March 22.  KPQ
  • The KPQ Home Expo opens at Town Toyota Center, Wenatchee from Mar. 13-15 with free admission and parking, offering home improvement ideas, design tips, and exclusive specials. Master gardener seminars by local experts (including Bonnie Orr) provide helpful vegetable gardening advice to help residents prepare for spring projects.  KPQ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Alcoa is demolishing the Northwest’s last aluminum smelter near Ferndale, with demolition and silo removal set to finish by year’s end + cleanup planned into 2027; Ecology will hold an April 8 webinar with comments until April 15, ending decades of local aluminum production.  KPQ

ECONOMY NEWS

  • At 4.58 per gallon on Monday, Washington gas prices surged 29 cents from last week, based on a survey of 2,666 stations by GasBuddy + prices are 55 cents above those a month ago, and experts predict further increases this week.  Wenatchee Business Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Sunday, Wenatchee Valley Fire quickly extinguished a brush fire south of town (it burned 5 acres and damaged several vehicles).  The Wenatchee World

HEALTH NEWS

  • CVCH opened its new Youth Behavioral Health clinic yesterday at 140 Easy Way to provide teens and young adults mental health treatment, substance use services and psychiatric care. The center follows its No Wrong Door for Youth approach to offer families one place for support.  Wenatchee Business Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Snowboarders and skiers took over downtown Wenatchee during the annual Rails and Ales rail jam on Tuesday, March 10, competing for a $1,000 top prize while performing rail slides and big jumps. The event featured separate divisions (men and women) and drew a large local crowd.  KPQ
  • Downtown Wenatchee hosted Rails and Ales today as riders competed in ski and snowboard rail jams for a $1,000 prize (with separate divisions for men and women) that turned city streets into a winter playground.  KPQ
