- ➤ NCW Libraries is inviting high school students in the NCW Libraries service area (Chelan, Douglas Okanogan, Grant, and Ferry) to submit original short fiction entries between 500 and 2000 words for its 14th annual High School Writers Competition. Three winners will share $200 in cash prizes and submissions are due online on April 11. KPQ

- ➤ Spring's low snowpack and dry conditions are raising fire season concerns in north-central Washington. Recent data shows that 86% of Chelan and nearly half of Kittitas are in drought, and the Yakima Basin reservoirs hold only 38% of typical water levels — the third lowest since 1971 — while experts hope La Nina will bring more rain.
