EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Wenatchee School District has selected four finalists—Alyssa Bones, Carrie Gavin, Mark Belton and McLain Johnson—to fill a vacant board position. The board will interview the candidates at 5 p.m. April 3 at the district central office and will choose one candidate in an executive session before officially appointing them at the April 22 meeting to serve until the next election cycle. - ➤ East Wenatchee faces a $900,000 budget deficit from inflation, more people and higher service costs—Mayor Jerrilea Crawford said the city will cut nearly $300,000 by ending a police vacancy, delaying a vehicle purchase and using reserve funds. The city has installed a utility tax and may add a public safety tax if needed—officials said strong bond ratings and reserves will keep finances healthy. KPQ
- ➤ Drivers using State Route 28 in East Wenatchee will face single-lane and shoulder closures from Monday through early May as crews drill for soil samples to plan a future corridor project—designed to widen the highway and add sidewalks and bike lanes. Wenatchee police said a crash at the Ferry and Mission intersection led to a DUI arrest with no serious injuries reported. KPQ
