COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Wenatchee Valley Dispute Resolution Center announced nominations for the 2025 Community Peacebuilder Award are open—community members can now submit their nominations to be recognized for their peacebuilding efforts.  The Wenatchee World
  • On Saturday, April 19th, the Chelan Douglas Community Action Council will host its first Over the Edge Fundraiser at the Residence Inn in Wenatchee—participants will rappel down the five-story hotel by Walla Walla Point Park. Safety harnesses and controlled descent speeds will be provided, and participants must raise at least $100 to reserve a slot.  KPQ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Douglas County Port Commissioner Jim Huffman, who has served since 1994, is running for another six-year term to create more family-wage jobs and boost the local tax base via public—private partnerships. Filing for candidates is May 5—9.  KPQ
  • Douglas County PUD was awarded approximately $1.5 million by the Washington State Department of Commerce to move three miles of power lines underground near Badger Mountain—this project aims to lower fire risks and is expected to begin at the end of summer, taking a couple of years to complete.  The Wenatchee World
  • Chelan County District Court and District Court Probation have announced a limited-time debt-relief program to help residents reduce debt—The program will start soon and run for a fixed period.  The Wenatchee World
  • Chelan County commissioners met last week to discuss how to reach a deficit-neutral budget amid a looming $4M deficit—reviewing measures to address the financial gap. The discussion follows earlier budget reviews and aims to set a clear plan for balancing county finances.  The Wenatchee World
