The Wenatchee Valley YMCA broke ground on its new 45,000-square-foot facility Thursday — on the old 7.5-acre campus on Fifth Street and Wenatchee Avenue — as plans advance for the project.

Filiberto Santana, a man from East Wenatchee, was sentenced to seven years in prison after he sprayed fluid in a U.S. Marshal’s eyes during his arrest at a Wenatchee park and ride — he had active warrants for stolen vehicles, assault and gun charges and will serve three years of supervised release.

Andrew Newton filed a lawsuit against the East Wenatchee Police Department & Douglas County Sheriff's Office over a May 28 traffic stop when officers tased him and pointed a gun after he said he felt unsafe.

Wenatchee police released photos after a vehicle collision at the junction of Ferry Street & Mission Street led to a DUI arrest with no serious injuries.

Officials from the Chelan Douglas Regional Port Authority and Chelan are exploring a change in ownership at Lake Chelan Airport—details will be discussed in upcoming meetings.

Local leaders hope the review will clarify future management of the airport.
