COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Seven local children battling chronic or terminal illness will be honored at the Chief For a Day program during the Apple Blossom Festival on April 24th. Local law enforcement leaders—Wenatchee Police Chief Edgar Reinfeld and Judge Kristen Ferrera—will lead a noon ceremony in Memorial Park where the youngsters receive tailored uniforms, badges and an oath of office.  KPQ

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, Leavenworth Reindeer Farm opened a contest to name its soon-to-arrive reindeer babies and the public can send in suggestions through April 19—contest submissions will decide the new names.  The Wenatchee World

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Wenatchee broke ground Thursday afternoon on the Confluence Parkway Phase 1 project to add 1.25 miles of new road with a roundabout, a traffic light crossing and two new bridges that will ease traffic and help create safe evacuation routes—Phase 1 is set to finish late 2027.  KPQ
  • Chelan PUD is nearing completion of a splash pad at Riverfront Park as part of the first phase of improvements to the Apple Capital Recreation Loop Trail. PUD spokesperson Rachel Hansen said the splash pad will finish soon after an apple-themed playground for kids 5—12 is completed in June and a pavilion will open in May.  KPQ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Confluence Health Hospital introduced new medical technology Tuesday at its Central Campus after retired local surgeon Dr. Chris Stahler donated funds for a virtual patient monitoring system and advanced patient simulators. The new equipment will let one caregiver monitor up to 12 patients — a change that is expected to improve emergency care training and patient safety.  Wenatchee Business Journal
