COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Wenatchee Valley Farmers Market returns this Saturday at the Pybus Public Market, where vendors will set up at 7 a.m. and offer fresh produce, artisanal goods, and food. It runs every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. through October — a long-standing community event.  KPQ

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters responded to a house fire early Tuesday on Joe Miller Road in Malaga; the blaze rendered the home uninhabitable despite all occupants evacuating safely while a small dog remains missing (its fate is under investigation).  KPQ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Independent grocers in North Central Washington offer quality produce and friendly service to support local agriculture and strengthen community ties. Dan’s Food Market (Leavenworth), Martin’s Market Place in Cashmere and others provide a personal shopping experience apart from big-box stores.  KPQ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Wenatchee School District is collecting community input online to shape a new high school design that addresses aging facilities and modern learning needs. The board will review ideas on June 23 (at the annual meeting) as a proposed $294M bond is planned for the November ballot.  KPQ
  • Wenatchee High School will honor five teams, three contributors, and four athletes at its Panther Hall of Fame ceremony on Saturday, Sept. 19 during the football game against South Kitsap. More details will be posted on the Wenatchee Athletics website after June 1.  KPQ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Wenatchee Mayor Mike Poirier said a new banner policy will end most community displays starting next year as the city shifts to a first-come, first-served process. The change follows the approval of a pro-family banner while a Pride display request was denied.  KPQ

  • Jo is a gentle Anatolian Shepherd picked as the Wenatchee Valley Humane Society's Pet of the Week who loves ball games and sunny walks and is waiting for a forever home at the animal shelter on South Wenatchee Avenue (open daily 12:30 pm to 6:00 pm).  KPQ
