EDUCATION NEWS

  • Livia Millard was named the latest WVC Distinguished Alumni winner (a prestigious honor) by the Wenatchee Valley College Foundation. The substitute teacher (board member for local organizations) was honored for her leadership in education and community service.  KPQ
  • Wenatchee's Sunnyslope Elementary and Foothills Middle School earned state awards for closing achievement gaps in 2025, and Eastmont's Lee Elementary was recognized in 2024 for academic growth - local officials credited strong progress in ELA and math.  KPQ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Wildlife experts in Wenatchee share tips to avoid skunk sprays by advising locals to avoid direct eye contact and sudden movements when approaching these animals. They stress staying calm and using soft noise, such as humming, while enjoying the outdoors.  KPQ
  • Former Commissioner of Public Lands Hilary Franz is set to speak as keynote at tonight's town hall hosted by the Chumstick Wildfire Stewardship Coalition in Leavenworth. The event will address wildfire management strategies to protect natural resources.  The Wenatchee World

  • Residents can apply for WSDOT’s e-bike rebate program that offers up to $1,200 toward qualifying e-bikes with applications accepted until March 29 plus Tacoma will announce e-bike lending library locations in May or June for locals to test rides.  KPQ

  • After smart trades at the WHL Prospects Draft, the Wenatchee Wild picked forward Parker McMillan and defenseman Jevin Morrison to boost their roster at Town Toyota Center—local fans expect a strong season ahead.  KPQ
  • Hailey Van Lith, a Wenatchee native and rookie guard, was waived by the Chicago Sky as part of a roster change after averaging 3.5 points in 29 games last season using a consistent style. Reports say teams are in active talks with the 24-year-old as she looks for future opportunities.  KPQ
