Good morning, Wenatchee. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 14th of May.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Women’s Service League of NCW will host the annual Touch-A-Truck fundraiser at Wenatchee Valley College on Saturday, May 17 from 10 am to 2 pm — kids and adults can touch fire trucks, police cars, heavy equipment and helicopters while agency representatives explain their work. The event will include family activities like face painting by LBow the Clown, a quiet hour from 10 am to 11 am, and free parking at Sage Hills church across the street — providing a safe and fun environment for everyone.  KPQ
  • Meet Duchess, a friendly 4-year-old, 9-month-old Siberian Husky named Pet of the Week by the Wenatchee Humane Society who loves to play and needs a home with a secure 6ft fence. She is available for adoption daily from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and by appointment on Wednesday when the shelter is closed — visitors may come to 1474 S. Wenatchee Ave.  KPQ

BUSINESS NEWS

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Anglers can fish for hatchery Chinook on the Icicle River starting Friday when the season opens at about 4:30 a.m. until one hour after sunset on June 30. Fishing is allowed in areas from 800 feet upstream of the river mouth to 500 feet downstream from the Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery barrier dam & from the intersection of Cyo Road at Sleeping Lady Resort to 750 feet upstream from the Snow Lakes trailhead parking area, while anglers must have a current Washington fishing license, may keep only two Chinook of at least 12 inches, and must release all other salmon as motorized boats and two-pole fishing are banned.  KPQ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A new Washington law will require clergy to report child abuse—including details from confessions—beginning this July, and the Seattle Archdiocese warns that priests who share such information may face excommunication. The Justice Department is investigating the law's potential clash with First Amendment rights as survivors support its intent.  KPQ
