  • Mari Mari, a three-year-old tabby named Pet of the Week by Wenatchee Valley Humane Society, is waiting for a calm home at the shelter (1474 South Wenatchee Avenue, open daily 12:30 p.m.–6:00 p.m.) where she bonds with visitors and finds comfort once she feels welcomed.  KPQ

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Crews battled a six-acre brush fire near 3rd Street along the river in East Wenatchee on Sunday evening at 7:40 p.m. and contained the blaze in two hours with mutual aid while investigators began reviewing its human-caused origins.  KPQ
  • Wenatchee Valley Fire Chief Brian Brett said a fire burned 6 acres on the riverside slope below Loop Trail near Highway 28 at 7:36 p.m. and appears to have been human-caused.  The Wenatchee World

CULTURE NEWS

  • High school programs in Wenatchee and Eastmont were honored for standout theater performances at the 2026 Apple Awards held May 14 at the Numerica Performing Arts Center, celebrating a season that featured 13 adjudicated productions.  The Wenatchee World
  • The Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center broke ground today on a $30M expansion project, featuring golden shovel ceremonies and salmon grilling along with live performances (mariachi, folklorico and Irish dance) that marked the event.  The Wenatchee World

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A major rockslide forced the Grant County Sheriff's Office to ask visitors to leave Frenchman Coulee Recreation Area — on Vantage Road SW west of Silica Road SW — Saturday morning due to unstable rock and risk of another slide; the road remains closed until further notice.  KPQ

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Local shoppers are advised to plan midweek trips (Tuesday to Thursday) to East Wenatchee Costco to avoid heavy weekend crowds; if shopping on weekends, they should consider arriving early or just before closing, and the food court still offers the $1.50 hot dog deal.  KPQ
