ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A wildfire that sparked Monday has burned 64 acres of mostly timber eight miles north of Leavenworth—water drops were conducted on Wednesday to reach 20% containment. The Southeast Washington Incident Management Team takes command today—while a Level 1 Be Ready Advisory covers residents along Second Creek Road from Merry Canyon to Road 7804. KPQ
- ➤ The Second Creek Fire, burning over 64 acres eight miles north of Leavenworth, has prompted Level 1 evacuations along Second Creek Road as crews have contained about 20 percent of the blaze with over 200 personnel fighting it using helicopter water drops. A Southeast Washington Type-3 Incident Management Team will assume command at 6 a.m. today—officials believe the fire was caused by human activity. KPQ

- ➤ Wenatchee City Council is asking voters to approve a 0.2% sales tax increase on August 5 to fund road, sidewalk, and capital project repairs and generate about $4 million each year—if approved, the tax will last for ten years. KPQ
- ➤ The Port of Chelan County is suing Great Northern Pacific and Burlington Lines (BNSF Railway) for easement access on a vacated part of Kittitas Street. The Wenatchee World
