Chelan County has seen worsening drought conditions since Ecology first declared a drought emergency in April—officials expanded the emergency due to low snowpack and brieffalls in precipitation.

Washington state agencies have relaunched the 'Secure Your Load, Save A Life' campaign to target unsafe loads and prevent crashes — state patrols are checking vehicles for unsecured loads through the first three weeks of June after contacting 5,300 drivers and issuing 532 citations last year. The campaign also offers free cargo nets and discount vouchers to help drivers secure their loads.
Chelan County officials are assessing a proposal by the Chelan Douglas Regional Port Authority to create a Malaga Tax Increment Area on Alcoa and Microsoft properties that could bring in $160 million in revenue over 25 years—raising concerns about potential revenue loss.
