- ➤ The Boys & Girls Club opened its first Chelan location on Monday at the Lake Chelan Community Center (103 Bighorn Way), drawing up to 100 community members. The Wenatchee World
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On July 4, Wenatchee Valley firefighters fought three brushfires sparked by fireworks near Rick Island, Malaga, and an old orchard on Penn Avenue that threatened homes—while a separate East Wenatchee structure fire on Thursday damaged a home, fence, and vehicles and resulted in the loss of three pet parakeets, with crews using favorable winds to limit each blaze to about two acres and no injuries reported. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Firefighters are battling the lightning-sparked Pomas Fire near Entiat that has burned 2,415 acres of steep, dry terrain since June 13. Crews are using helicopters and building containment lines while protecting local structures—stage 2 fire restrictions are in effect in the forest. KPQ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ People with Blake-related drug convictions will get legal help clearing records and applying for refunds on July 18 at the Chelan County Courthouse in Wenatchee. Legal experts will be available from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 4 p.m.—advance registration helps review cases and speed up the process. KPQ
- ➤ WSDOT will start work on US 2 near Tumwater Canyon on July 21 to remove rocks and install netting to stabilize slopes. The work runs Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will affect four spots along the road, including a three-day full closure near Tumwater Canyon, before ending in late September (causing delays for drivers). - ➤ Chelan County commissioners signed a $2.6 million sale of a Malaga property to the Center for Alcohol and Drug Treatment on Monday— the property will host its upcoming inpatient facility. The Wenatchee World
- ➤ Chelan County commissioners renamed the Chelan County Rodeo Arena at the Expo Center in Cashmere to honor late Cindy Fowler—a dedicated member of the Chelan County Fair Board. The Wenatchee World
