Good morning, Wenatchee. Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 17th of July.
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A fast-moving brush fire on Eastmont Avenue in East Wenatchee has forced Level 2 evacuations on Blue Grade and Hocumb and led to the closure of part of Highway 97—fire crews use two helicopters as the blaze slowly moves toward nearby orchards. KPQ
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ At Monday’s meeting, the Eastmont School Board approved a $102.3 million budget and a $1 million capital funds budget, though federal funds for migrant education may be cut. Superintendent Spencer Taylor said staff and students could see changes if the cuts occur (final word from the Department of Education may come after the new school year starts) and noted that similar risks are affecting other districts (raising concerns about support for migrant programs). LIFESTYLE NEWS
- ➤ Lake Wenatchee will open for sockeye salmon fishing on July 23, allowing anglers to keep up to four 12-inch fish per day while following new selective gear rules that require barbless single-point hooks with artificial flies or lures (no bait allowed).
