COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Deb Wirth and Susan Cox, both retired educators, will serve as chaperones for the Washington State Apple Blossom Festival Royalty programs and guide local schoolgirls during appearances as the festival runs from April 23rd to May 3rd.  KPQ
  • Former Chelan-Douglas Land Trust director Eunice Youmans filed a federal lawsuit alleging she was fired in November 2024 after board members made sexist remarks and pressured her to resign—she claims the treatment caused emotional distress. Board president Cody Gillin said the trust had sought a mutual separation and will review the suit.  KPQ
  • The Wenatchee Valley Senior Activity Center will start accepting entries on Friday for a renaming contest—community members can win cash prizes and memberships by proposing a new name for the center.  The Wenatchee World
  • City of Wenatchee and Wenatchee Valley Humane Society will host a dog pool party on August 16th from 4PM to 7PM at the city pool to mark the final day of summer operations. The event offers a dog obstacle course and onsite pet services—free microchipping, rabies vaccination, and licensing for a $20 fee—with rules requiring handlers to be 16 or older and dogs on leash.  KPQ

CRIME NEWS

  • The Chelan County Sheriff's Office announced on Tuesday that an 18-year-old East Wenatchee man was arrested in connection with the Balsam Root Fire that burned over 300 acres in 2024—authorities continue to investigate the case.  The Wenatchee World

  • NCW Tech Alliance has launched a free, online AI Skill-a-Thon for North Central Washington residents to gain technology skills, earn certifications, and compete for cash prizes — the contest offers a chance to boost resumes and prepare for future tech opportunities.  The Wenatchee World

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A report from Our Valley Our Future and Thriving Together NCW shows that Washington state budget cuts have removed or threatened $37.9 million in funding from 26 of 30 public and nonprofit organizations in Chelan, Douglas, Grant and Okanogan counties—public agencies lost an average of $5.8 million while nonprofits saw 25.1% cuts. Organizations are already reducing programs and staff as they await more data on the full impact.  Wenatchee Business Journal
  • The Chelan County Auditor’s Office is seeking members for an against committee to oppose a $73M bond measure for Lake Chelan School District No. 129—no further details on eligibility have been released.  The Wenatchee World
