Local nonprofits in Wenatchee are battling rising food insecurity caused by inflation and federal cuts—many are relying on community support to meet growing needs.

Fairs are fueling excitement in North Central Washington as local youth and agricultural traditions are showcased in events across the region—Waterville hosts the North Central Washington Fair from August 21 to 24, Cashmere holds the Chelan County Fair from September 4 to 7, and Moses Lake is celebrating with the Grant County Fair from August 12 to 16. These events highlight regional traditions and provide fun experiences for local families.

Wenatchee Valley College did not meet key accreditation standards after an unscheduled visit (by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities) and must improve harassment and workplace training by August 2029 (with a follow-up evaluation set for spring 2026).

A report from Our Valley, Our Future (OVOF) and Thriving Together NCW shows that Washington State budget cuts have removed $37.9M, affecting public and nonprofit groups in Chelan, Douglas and Grant counties.

The organizations plan to use the report to call for additional support and funding.
