Wenatchee's small orchards—once stretching from the Columbia River to Saddle Rock—now face tighter regulations and rising labor costs that squeeze profit margins and reshape the region's apple economy.

The Wenatchee City Council approved sale agreements north of Ohme Gardens—along with business license fee exemptions and plans for a junior city council—at its August 28th meeting.

Jim Kuntz of the Chelan-Douglas Port Authority said the port respectfully disagrees with Chelan County critics over its push for a Malaga tax district—he explained that the port believes its efforts support local needs.
