- ➤ Wenatchee is accepting applications for its Community Art Support Grant Program—designed to fund local art projects and boost community creativity. The Wenatchee World
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Labor Mountain Fire remains 7% contained in Chelan County after growing to about 39,324 acres since a lightning strike on Sept. 1, and firefighters are building lines near Wenatchee and Cashmere—while evacuation notices and highway closures stay in effect. KPQ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Washington State Public Works Board has awarded millions in grants and loans to upgrade water and sewer systems in central and eastern Washington — Wenatchee received $3.8 million for the Crawford Water Main Replacement project to replace 2,600 linear feet of water main for safer drinking water. The funding aims to support community growth through critical infrastructure improvements. KPQ
- ➤ Evacuation orders in Chelan County have dropped as crews work on the Lower Sugarloaf Fire—orders along Entiat River Road in Ardenvoir have been lifted, while Warner Canyon and part of Burch Mountain Road are now under a Level 2 'Get Ready' notice with areas above Burch Mountain Road and in Swakane Canyon remaining on a Level 3 'Leave Now' notice and Level 1 'Be Alert' in effect for Sunyslope and the zone from Hay Canyon to Eagle Creek Road. - ➤ Chelan County will host fall meetings next week where residents may meet commissioners at venues in Malaga, Chelan PUD, and Lake Wenatchee Rec Club to discuss issues such as the Malaga tax proposal. The county will hold a public hearing on its Homeless Housing Strategic Plan Nov 3 at 10:30 a.m.—residents may submit comments in writing or in person. KPQ

- ➤ Confluence Health, Aging and Adult Care, the Chelan-Douglas Health District and the Alzheimer’s Association will host a brain health and dementia awareness training in Wenatchee on Oct. 24—this event will help local residents learn to recognize early symptoms and guide care decisions. LIFESTYLE NEWS
- ➤ In Washington, local homeowners are advised to mow their lawns weekly until temperatures drop below 60 for warm-season grasses and 50 for cool-season grasses - experts say that gradually reducing mowing frequency in October and November helps avoid winter lawn problems. The irrigation canals have closed for the season so keeping up with proper lawn care now will make spring easier. KPQ
