  • Mike Malmin, known as Wenatchee's Good News guy, brings energy to community events by greeting neighbors by name—he asks about families and shares jokes to brighten the day.  The Wenatchee World
  • Eastmont student Josie Weaver won the 2026 Rodeo Queen title at the Chelan County Fair pageant on Sunday—she will serve as an ambassador by attending community events, parades, and rodeos beginning Nov. 1.  KPQ
  • A waterline broke overnight and caused an early morning flood that temporarily closed the Serve Wenatchee Valley office — a key community resource — and the Fresh HOPE Market food bank.  The Wenatchee World
  • The Chelan Public Library at 216 Emerson St. will close on Oct. 20 for a $592K interior renovation—scheduled to reopen in early summer—according to a press release.  The Wenatchee World
  • Chowder and Gazpacho are guinea pigs at Wenatchee Valley Humane Society—known for their gourmet names and playful habits—and are available for appointment today from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. at 1474 S. Wenatchee Ave.  KPQ

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A friend's car hit a deer on Blewett Pass, causing the vehicle to veer off an embankment and become totaled+ the driver escaped unharmed while the deer did not survive.  KPQ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Starbucks said it will cut 369 WA jobs by December 5—this move is part of a plan to restructure operations that may include closing some grab-and-go drive-through stores by 2026, and no specific locations have been shared.  KPQ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Washington State Department of Natural Resources has launched a new alert system that sends email and text notifications about prescribed burns with details on location, size, and date. Residents can register multiple locations via the DNR Burn Portal — and unsubscribe anytime.  KPQ
  • Firefighters from Grant County and six other agencies fought an autumn brushfire that burned 200 acres near Soap Lake on Monday afternoon — the blaze started off State Route 17 about three miles north of Soap Lake at 3 p.m. and was brought under control by 5:15 p.m.  KPQ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • US 97 Blewett Pass reopened with 24-hour pilot car operations and reduced speeds after being closed for more than two weeks because of the Labor Mountain Fire. Drivers should remain alert for travel changes — crews are working nearby.  KPQ
