ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Douglas County PUD cut the ribbon on a new hydrogen plant in Baker Flats that uses a five megawatt electrolyzer to produce two metric tons of hydrogen each day and lower turbine maintenance. The project is the nation’s first renewable hydrogen facility owned by a public utility — General Manager Gary Ivory said it is part of the PUD’s future vision. KPQ
- ➤ The Lower Sugarloaf Fire, ignited by lightning on Aug. 31 east of Leavenworth, burned 42,955 acres and is now 90% contained thanks to cooler weather and calmer winds. - ➤ Last month, the historic Sugarloaf Lookout on the Wenatchee River Ranger District was nearly threatened by the Lower Sugarloaf Fire but remained safe after firefighters wrapped it in fire-resistant material and installed a sprinkler system.
