COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, the Wenatchee Valley Senior Activity Center announced it will be renamed Foothills Community Center at 1312 Maple Street to better reflect its local role—this follows a renaming contest inspired by a mural from the late William R. Fischer. The Center will begin its rebranding next year to avoid donor confusion during its key autumn fundraising period.  KPQ
  • Chelan County Search and Rescue will hold a fundraising banquet—featuring a BBQ dinner, live music, and an auction of local items—to help fund rescue missions at Pybus Market on Nov. 14 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets are $55 per person or $440 per table.  KPQ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest is planning prescribed fire operations this week — the U.S. Forest Service said the burns will continue through the fall and winter.  The Wenatchee World

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Knapps Tunnel on U.S. 97A will close for a two-hour inspection of its upgraded lighting system Monday, October 20 from noon to 2 p.m.—drivers between Entiat and Chelan should plan to use a detour on State Route 971.  KPQ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Residents can update the Medical ID in their iPhone Health app to share vital emergency details with 911 even if they cannot speak — Android users can enable a similar feature in Google's Personal Safety system. Officials say this simple setting change helps first responders access critical information during emergencies.  KPQ
