- ➤ Starting January 2026, Washington stores will charge 12 cents for reusable plastic bags while paper bags will still cost 8 cents to help cover the cost of providing compliant bags (this fee is not a tax). Shoppers using (WIC, SNAP, TANF, or Food Assistance Programs) remain exempt from the fee. KPQ

- ➤ Record low temperatures across Washington remind residents that winter has brought harsh cold in the past. In Wenatchee, records show that temperatures dropped to -21°F at Panborn Airport — a reminder that extreme freezes have been experienced throughout the state. KPQ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Chelan PUD will join Markets+ in 2028 — a real-time energy market — to boost wholesale energy revenue and trade efficiently with neighboring providers as the grid shifts toward more wind and solar power. The utility invested nearly $1.3 million in the project to support hydropower values and improve regional energy flows. KPQ
