COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ This Saturday, on Make A Difference Day, volunteers will drop off new and gently used coats, hats and gloves at Albertsons on 1128 N. Miller St. in Wenatchee between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. for the Coats For Kids Drive—Serve Wenatchee will later distribute donations to local school districts to meet a request for about 1,000 coats. KPQ
- ➤ After a flood damaged its headquarters, Serve Wenatchee moved to a temporary site at 850 N. James Street in East Wenatchee (the former Trinity United Methodist Church) to keep its community programs running, including the Fresh Hope Market. The organization plans to open the new location the week of Oct. 27. KPQ

- ➤ NCW Libraries and the Washington Secretary of State's Office will host a free virtual Civics 101 workshop series in November—sessions run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 10, Nov. 17 and Nov. 24 to teach residents about federal, state and local government. KPQ
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Controlled burns began Tuesday in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest — crews burned 50-100 acres at Swauk Pine on the Cle Elum Ranger District and will burn 200-250 acres near the Little Naches River and 100 acres in Libby Creek tomorrow while smoke is expected to have little impact on air quality.
