COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On October 28, local Wenatchee businesses will offer discounts to honor first responders such as firefighters, police, and EMTs—customers should check each store for details.  KPQ
  • EZ Access Storage announced its partnership with Serve Wenatchee Valley to brighten Christmas for families in need across the area + the collaboration will provide extra holiday support to local families as the festive season nears.  The Wenatchee World

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Haunted Museum event at Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center opened October 23 with a new group escape room experience called The Protocol and will run until October 25 and again from October 28 to 30 from 6 to 9 p.m.—tickets cost $25 online or $30 at the door. The experience is for adults only and features a Quarantine Zone serving adult beverages.  KPQ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Avalanches have claimed over 1,000 lives since 1951 as survival rates drop to 25% after 30 minutes of burial—75% of victims dying from asphyxia. Experience Powersports will offer a free avalanche survival class in Moses Lake to teach mountain safety.  KPQ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Blewett Pass shines with bright autumn colors as leaves turn yellow and orange; visitors can drive to nearby Vale and Naches—known for rich history—to enjoy scenic fall views before Halloween.  KPQ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Washington SNAP benefits will stop if Congress does not restore federal funding by Oct 31—DSHS warned that nearly a million residents could lose food aid in November and hundreds of support staff may be temporarily laid off starting Nov 4.  KPQ
  • Chelan County now offers year-round hazardous waste disposal for small businesses and organizations that generate limited amounts of dangerous materials, requiring appointments at the Moderate Risk Waste Facility+ this service safely recycles items like used oil, gasoline, and batteries while providing pricing details by phone or email.  KPQ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Care-a-Van will return to Wenatchee on Tuesday, October 28th at Town Toyota Center—1300 Walla Walla Ave—to offer mobile health care to residents. Organized by Chelan Douglas Health District and the WA State Department of Health, the clinic will provide blood pressure checks, mental health support, and other essential services.  KPQ
