Good morning, Wenatchee. Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 25th of October.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Entiat High School graduates have painted a 13 x 17 foot number on Numeral Mountain each year since 1920—each design shows local history with patriotic touches and art that have been refreshed in the 1980s and after the Mills Canyon fire. The landmark continues to celebrate the town’s tradition and creativity.  KPQ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Washingtonians can now taste Samuel Adams Utopias 2025—a 30% ABV beer available legally across select specialty stores despite its ban in 15 states. The limited-edition drink comes in a hand-numbered ceramic decanter and costs $240 for a 24.5-ounce bottle.  KPQ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A report from the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission and the Department of Commerce warns that the Northwest could face power shortages and rolling blackouts next year if a dry hydropower year overlaps with a long cold snap—extreme weather and rising energy demand may challenge the region's reliable, low-cost hydroelectric supply. The study shows that limited new energy capacity and storage may force changes in how power is supplied.  KPQ
  • Michael Dieter used a small shovel to inspect the burned soil on the black forest floor after the Labor Mountain fire to check for environmental threats—officials plan to use his findings to guide cleanup efforts. His work will help assess potential hazards in the area.  The Wenatchee World

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A Chelan County deputy earned a state Life Saving Award for rescuing a person who was struggling in Lake Chelan on July 11 (he provided a personal flotation device and guided the individual 100 yards to safety near Don Morse Park).  KPQ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Wenatchee’s Care-A-Van event will offer drive-through free food and health screenings on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at Town Toyota Center — the service is available to everyone on a first-come, first-served basis without an appointment.  KPQ
