Good morning, Wenatchee. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 29th of October.

CULTURE NEWS

  • Historical land disputes and shifting boundaries set the stage for Chelan County’s formation in 1899 when parts of Kittitas and Okanogan Counties were reformed to boost the apple trade in Wenatchee Valley. Early deals like the Oregon Treaty and statehood spurred the growth of local government and commerce—shaping a legacy that endures in our community today.  KPQ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Washington's lands commissioner Dave Upthegrove will ask lawmakers for an extra $60 million from climate funds to restore wildfire prevention spending under House Bill 1168. Representative Larry Springer said the proposal will be discussed in the upcoming legislative session while highlighting wildfire prevention’s role in reducing carbon emissions.  KPQ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Confluence Health and Wenatchee Valley Medical Group awarded 50 nonprofits $500K to boost health, housing, education and economic stability in North Central Washington — four groups such as NCW Tech Alliance and Seattle Children’s Foundation each received $50K — as part of the Community Health Partnership Fund.  KPQ
