COMMUNITY NEWS

  • In 1997, 700 volunteers in Wenatchee baked a giant apple pie using 32,000 pounds of apples and other ingredients—this record-setting event by the Columbia River still holds a Guinness World Record. The project was planned over 6 months and brought together local neighbors from around the area.  KPQ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A new list of 12 high-paying jobs that are unlikely to be replaced by AI is available to help high school students in our region plan for their futures—roles in healthcare, skilled trades, technical, and renewable energy all offer starting salaries around $50,000 a year.  KPQ
  • More than 400 people gathered at Wenatchee Convention Center on November 4 for NCW Tech Alliance's 24th Annual Innovator Awards Luncheon, where officials, educators, and entrepreneurs awarded winners in categories like K-12 Future Technology Leader, STEM College Innovators, STEM Champion, Newcomer in Technology and Entrepreneur of the Year + the wins celebrated new ideas in tech. A keynote speech showed how artificial intelligence can create new opportunities + it stressed the region’s strong push in technology and education.  Wenatchee Business Journal

FINANCE NEWS

  • Washington Lottery officials said the Mega Millions jackpot rose to $843 million after Tuesday’s drawing—one of the highest ever—and it will be drawn tomorrow at 8:00 p.m. PT with a ticket’s cash option estimated near $392 million; recent wins in Camas and Renton have raised local hopes for even bigger prizes.  KPQ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Recent data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows Washington dental hygienists earned about $58.69 per hour—making them the highest-paid hourly workers in a healthcare field with strong growth potential.  KPQ
  • Six people died and dozens were hospitalized after eating recalled pasta meals linked to a Listeria outbreak that affected 18 states. Two Washington residents were hospitalized — health officials urge shoppers to check freezers and the FDA website for recalled products.  KPQ
  • TOGETHER! for Youth, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, received a grant from the Community Health Partnership Fund Committee + Confluence Health and the Wenatchee Valley Medical Group to boost its mental health and suicide prevention efforts.  The Wenatchee World
