COMMUNITY NEWS

  • SkillSource has launched a donation page on its website—making it easier for community members to give ahead of GivingTuesday. The change will improve direct contributions for the organization.  The Wenatchee World
  • Registration is now open for the Wenatchee Valley Humane Society’s third annual Santa Paws Fun Run, a holiday event designed to support shelter animals + bring community members together. Organizers said more details on how to sign up will be provided soon.  The Wenatchee World

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Wenatchee Valley College’s Board of Trustees renewed President Faimous Harrison’s contract for three more years, starting Jan. 1, while keeping his salary at $275,834. Harrison led a revision of the college’s strategic plan and launched a Leadership Development Academy cohort+ his new term will focus on strengthening communication and future growth.  KPQ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Wildfires were identified as the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in Chelan County after releasing 1.54 million metric tons of CO2 in 2023 — about 59 percent of the county's total emissions. A report from Chelan County Natural Resources and its partners urged better forest management to reduce future wildfire risks.  KPQ
  • Families can purchase a $7.50 Christmas tree permit in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest to cut one tree up to 15 feet, and fourth-graders can get a free Every Kid Outdoors pass. Officials advise bringing a hard copy map and following rules for cutting trees close to the ground with stumps no higher than six inches — avoid areas near streams, campgrounds, and other restricted zones.  KPQ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife will launch the new MyWDFW mobile app for hunters and anglers before the 2026 license year, letting users buy licenses, view privileges, and electronically tag species with offline support. Paper licenses remain for 2025 while mobile options will start on April 1—additional features include catch record cards, harvest data, and an enforcement view for officers.  KPQ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health officials are on alert over a new H3N2 flu strain with seven mutations that may lower the current vaccine's effectiveness — similar cases have driven hospitalizations in Canada and the UK — and local providers say a booster shot may be needed once available.  KPQ
