ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Local retailers are offering deep discounts on winter apparel and electronics this month as they clear inventory before the new year. Shoppers can find deals on *winter coats* and other essentials at various stores. KPQ
- ➤ Starting Jan. 1, 2026, Washington will raise the minimum wage from $16.66 to $17.13 and ease paid family leave requirements by lowering work thresholds for benefits, while also imposing new training and safety rules on employers of isolated workers. KPQ
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Wenatchee School District is preparing for a drop of over $2 million in federal funds for the 2026-27 budget, which could lead to staff cuts and reduced support for federally funded programs (officials are working on a new budget plan). The Wenatchee World
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Washington student loan borrowers may face higher monthly payments after a federal court ruling halted the SAVE plan and income-driven repayment options. Affected borrowers will see changes starting with their next billing cycle (impact may be significant for those in areas including Tri-Cities) and should review their accounts. KPQ
- ➤ Washington residents who used Google Play between Aug. 2016 and Sept. 2023 may claim a share of Google's $700M antitrust settlement. A final court hearing in April 2026 will approve the payout — those affected should check for a Dec. 2, 2025 email or call after April 30, 2026. KPQ
- ➤ The Port of Chelan County Commissioners have proposed a 50/50 revenue split on property taxes for the first three Microsoft datacenter buildings in Malaga TIA to ease taxing district concerns, and they plan to prioritize sewer infrastructure if approved at the Dec. 23 meeting. KPQ
- ➤ Chelan County residents can pick up free sandbags from county-owned maintenance yards weekdays from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to prepare for high runoff or snowmelt (each location serves areas including Wenatchee, Cashmere, Leavenworth, Ardenvoir and Chelan). KPQ
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Confluence Health refunded more than $1.8M to (4,729 patients) after an investigation found payments from charity care applicants were not returned. The hospital system agreed to follow state charity rules to prevent further issues. KPQ
