CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Under the John Waldo Act (named for late advocate John Waldo), Washington theaters will add more open-caption screenings in 2026. Larger venues must show captions during peak hours in the first two weeks of films, and smaller theaters will provide captions on request for accessibility. KPQ
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Wenatchee School District announced that its technical skills center in Olds Station will begin a $14.5M upgrade this winter to add new labs, classrooms, a demonstration kitchen, and training spaces for trades while phasing construction to minimize disruption. The state-funded project aims to equip students with industry-standard skills. KPQ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Eligible residents in Washington counties (Benton, Chelan, Cowlitz, and others) impacted by flooding can apply for cash assistance from the Disaster Cash Assistance Program launched Dec. 17 under Gov. Bob Ferguson's amended proclamation. Applicants must complete an interview online, by phone, or at a local Community Services Office before Jan. 15. KPQ
