EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Wenatchee School District has selected four finalists—Alyssa Bones, Carrie Gavin, Mark Belton and McLain Johnson—to fill a vacant board position. The board will interview the candidates at 5 p.m. April 3 at the district central office and will choose one candidate in an executive session before officially appointing them at the April 22 meeting to serve until the next election cycle. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ East Wenatchee faces a $900,000 budget deficit from inflation, more people and higher service costs—Mayor Jerrilea Crawford said the city will cut nearly $300,000 by ending a police vacancy, delaying a vehicle purchase and using reserve funds. The city has installed a utility tax and may add a public safety tax if needed—officials said strong bond ratings and reserves will keep finances healthy. KPQ
- ➤ Drivers using State Route 28 in East Wenatchee will face single-lane and shoulder closures from Monday through early May as crews drill for soil samples to plan a future corridor project—designed to widen the highway and add sidewalks and bike lanes. Wenatchee police said a crash at the Ferry and Mission intersection led to a DUI arrest with no serious injuries reported. KPQ
